Lady Raiders Fall to Texas in Championship Match

Texas Tech awaits NCAA Selection on Tuesday
AUSTIN – The No. 14 Texas Tech Women's Tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-1 decision to No. 6 Texas in the Big 12 Championship match Sunday.
Texas (22-4) won the doubles point with victories on courts three and two over Texas Tech (20-6). Alex Valenstein and Katelyn Jackson fell 6-0 to the Turati twins on court three just before Marta Perez-Mur and Dani Wagland defeated Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Talaba, 6-2, on court two.
To open singles action, Dvorak clinched a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Perez-Mur to tie the match 1-all. Dvorak improved to 16-4 on the season and 8-3 when playing at the no. 5 position.
No. 72 Petra Granic dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision on No. 56 Felicity Maltby to give the Longhorns a 2-1 lead in the match.
On court one, No. 21 Gabriela Talaba fell to top-ranked Bianca Turati in straight sets (6-4, 6-3), pushing the Texas lead to 3-1.
After being down 5-1 in the second set, junior Alex Valenstein battled back to a 4-5 deficit. But it wasn't enough as No. 29 Anna Turati clinched the Big 12 championship with a 6-4 victory in set two.
