JuCo Transfer signs to play with Texas Tech in 2018-19
LUBBOCK, Texas – Lady Raider Basketball Head Coach Marlene Stollings announced the signing of Eryka Sidney, the fourth addition to the 2018-19 roster.
"Eryka is a scoring point guard who brings excellent speed and quickness. She can shoot the three and attack off the bounce," Stollings said. "Her ability to see the floor and distribute the ball is innate. Eryka has a big heart and is a fearless competitor. We are thrilled to add her to our Lady Raider program!"
Sidney is a 5-6 guard from Houston, Texas. She spent her first two seasons out of high school playing at San Jacinto College in Houston. During her career, She was a two-time honorable mention All-American and was selected to the All-Region First Team both seasons.
Last season, Sidney was named the Region XIV Tournament MVP and led San Jac to back-to-back tournament appearances.
"I chose Texas Tech because I believe in the vision Coach Marlene has for her program and I want to be part of it. I know that she and the rest of her staff, has my best interest at heart, and I truly believe that together we can turn this program back into a powerhouse," Sidney said.
Sidney was a four-year letterwinner at Wheatley High School. She led the Lady Wildcats two a district championship in 2015 and was named the district MVP during her junior and senior seasons.
After her senior season, Sidney was named to the Class 4A All-Region III First Team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT ERYKA SIDNEY:
"Eryka has a love for the game that is impactful. She left San Jac as arguably the best guard to ever play here. Her numbers and accolades speak for themselves but her work ethic, love for her teammates, and her competitive drive are what make her so special. She left her mark here at San Jac and I am excited to see what she does with Coach Stollings and their team at Texas Tech."
