Goalkeeper Brecht Haakma to join the Red Raiders in the fall
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech soccer head coach Tom Stone announced Friday the signing of Brecht Haakma to a national letter of intent, joining the program for the 2018 season.
Haakma, a goalkeeper from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, joins a group of 11 signees to the 2018 Red Raider class. Eight inked NLI's during the February signing period and two joined the Tech squad as mid-year enrollees for the spring.
"We are excited about bringing Brecht into our squad for the 2018 season," Stone said. "She is a wonderful and talented young lady who will be an excellent addition on and off the field."
Haakma has trained with the Dutch U-19 national team in preparation for the European Championships and the UEFA first qualifying rounds. She is a member of SC Buitenveldert, the largest club for women's soccer in the Netherlands and helped her squad to nine victories with clean sheets over the 2016-17 season.
Over the course of that season, Haakma was honored with the 2017 Most Valuable Goalkeeper in Category A of the International Tournament in Gramsbergen. She helped SC Buitenveldert to a second-place team finish in the topklasse grouping, which is the highest amateur level for the club.
Haakma also has a background in ice skating, swimming and gymnastics and will join the Red Raiders this summer in preparation for the upcoming 2018 campaign.
