Brower Qualifies for Inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open

Laurie Brower fired a 3-over 75 Monday to qualify out of a sectional held in Austin
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech assistant coach Laurie Brower qualified Monday afternoon for the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open after firing a 3-over-par 75 to finish second overall at the Onion Creek Golf Club in Austin.
Brower, who was promoted to a full-time assistant coach this past Friday, was one of four players to qualify for the July 12-15 U.S. Women's Senior Open in Wheaton, Illinois. The 72-hole tournament will be played at the Chicago Golf Club with television coverage provided on FOX Sports 1.
Brower previously played in the U.S. Women's Open as recently as 2008 as part of a successful professional career on the LPGA Tour. Brower collected over $360,000 in total earnings over her 10-year LPGA career before retiring in 2002. She also played six years on both the Futures and Players West Tours after concluding her collegiate career at Tech.
The USGA announced the creation of the U.S. Senior Women's Open in 2015, placing the inaugural tournament at the Chicago Golf Club, which is hosting its first Open championship in 107 years. The field will include 61 exempt players, 16 of which have won the U.S. Women's Open previously. The remainder of the field will come from sectional qualifiers that will determine the final 59 participants.
Eligibility for the U.S. Senior Women's Open is limited to professional and amateur players age 50 and older.
