June 21, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Wynn will have two seasons of eligibility remaining starting this fall.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team has signed Parker Wynn to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) announced Thursday by head coach Brett Masi.
Wynn, a native of North Richland Hills, Texas joins the Red Raiders as a junior for the 2018-19 season. He spent the previous two seasons at Louisville where a two-time All-ACC Third-Team selection and made back-to-back appearances at the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Doubles Championships.
"Our coaching staff and our program are super excited to get a player and a person like Parker," Masi said. "After not being able to land him in the recruiting process the first time around two years ago, we couldn't let this get past us again. Parker is truly a hard core Red Raider, and that's going to have a big impact with our team. I can't wait to get him to campus with our team this fall."
Wynn captured 67 singles victories and 60 doubles wins during his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Cardinals. He mostly saw action at the No. 1 doubles position and on court two in singles.
Wynn has been a fixture in the ITA doubles rankings over the last two seasons climbing as high as No. 6 entering the 2018 dual match season. He also spent nine weeks in the ITA singles rankings and reached No. 90 on two occasions in 2018.
"Playing for Texas Tech has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid," Wynn said. "Both of my parents are Red Raiders, and my Dad played on the football team. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of something I've wanted to be a part of since I was young when searching for schools a second time around. I feel like Coach Masi and Coach Whitehead can help me take my game to the next level as a player. I hope I can leave a big impact on the program during these next two seasons."
The Red Raiders have secured a NCAA Tournament berth in two of three seasons under Masi and in 11 of the last 14 seasons dating back to 2005. Texas Tech has averaged 20 wins per season with Masi at the helm highlighted by a program single-season record 28 victories and the program's first Big 12 regular season championship in 2016.
