Texas Tech incoming freshman Anna Dong finished second at the LPGA Zhuhai Heritage event
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech incoming freshman Anna Dong finished second Saturday at the China LPGA Zhuhai Heritage event held at the Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club in Guangdong.
Â
Dong opened the 54-hole event with a 2-under-par 70 round en route to finishing the tournament with a 2-over card. She fired a 4-over score during Friday's second round before closing with an even-par card during Saturday's final 18 holes.
Â
This was the first career professional tournament for Dong, who also finished as the low amateur among the 65-player field. Dong will arrive at Tech this fall as one of four newcomers to the Red Raider roster, joining Destiny Arenas (Lubbock, Texas), Maddie Goldberg (Austin, Texas) and Cecilie Nielsen (Horsholm, Denmark).
Â
Dong, a native of China, attended Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood, California, where she was one of the top amateur players in the country. Dong ranked 84th nationally in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association rankings when she signed with Tech this past November.
Â
The list of newcomers adds a Tech program that has advanced to the NCAA Regional round in eight of nine seasons under head coach JoJo Robertson. The Red Raiders have made two appearances in the NCAA Championships during that span, which came in 2015 and 2017.
