Class of 2022 joins together for first time as Red Raiders.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Head coach Tom Stone and Texas Tech Soccer hosted their first-year player banquet Saturday. Celebrated annually at The Rawls Course, Stone uses the reception to address his incoming freshman class and their families as they officially step foot on campus as Red Raiders. The event includes a dinner and social for players and their families to be together for the first time as members of the Texas Tech Soccer family.
"When you first arrive, there is a bit of nervous energy with these freshmen trying to work through things and transition to college life," Stone said. "So, it's great to get them all together, get the captains around them, get all their families together and eat together.
"It's about kicking off a great fall with a really nice first night," said Stone.
Stone's incoming class includes: midfielders Alyssa D'Aloise (Dallas, Texas), Marissa Ling (Mansfield, Texas), Jen Rose (Orange, Calif.) and Michaela Sheehy (Plano, Texas); defenders Cassandra Hiatt (Parker, Colo.) and Sierra Jones (Dallas, Texas); goalkeepers Brecht Haakma (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Averi Isaacs (Plano, Texas); and forward Charlotte Teeter (Alpharetta, Ga.).
"These girls hail from all over the world," said Stone. "We're not afraid to go anywhere to find the right players. I think it takes the right compilation that can complement each other on the field and is willing to buy into our culture off the field to make a great freshman class."
He concluded, saying, "What they do with this opportunity they are given is up to them, and we're about to find that out."
The Red Raiders begin their season with a road exhibition contest at Denver on Aug. 11. The following weekend, they will be in action at John Walker Soccer Complex on Aug. 17 for their home opener against New Mexico. Tickets will go on sale in August.
