Red Raiders will open the 2018-19 campaign at the Mary Fossum Invitational on Sept. 15-16
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson announced the 2018-19 women's golf schedule Friday, which will feature 10 tournaments leading up the Big 12 Championships in mid-April.
Â
The Red Raiders, coming off their eighth NCAA Regional appearance in the last nine years under Robertson, will once again travel the country in order to play in several of the nation's top tournaments. Tech will also make four stops in the state of Texas with trips to Austin, San Marcos, Houston and Dallas.
Â
"The goal is to always be playing when May rolls around and I believe this schedule helps us accomplish that," Robertson said. "We have a good mixture this year of experienced players and newcomers that will be able to compete at a high level. We're looking forward to opening the season in less than a month."
Â
Tech opens the season Sept. 15-16 at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State. The trip to East Lansing will provide the Red Raiders an opportunity to play at one of four NCAA Regional sites for this season in the Forest Akers Golf Courses.
Â
From there, Tech will compete in three tournaments during the month of October, beginning with the Illini Invitational on Oct. 8-9 in Chicago. Tech will also take part in the Betsy Rawls Invitational on Oct. 19-21 in Austin as well as the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos.
Â
The Red Raiders return to the links beginning Feb. 16-17 with the Mercer Invitational in Atlanta followed by the Dickson Invitational hosted in Houston. Tech will see both sides of the country in March with trips to the BYU Invitational on March 11-12, the 3M Invitational in Augusta, Georgia, on March 16-17 and a match play event hosted by San Diego State on March 25-27.
Â
Tech will receive one last tune-up prior to the Big 12 Championships in the Bruzzy Challenge on April 1-2 in Dallas. This is the second-straight season Tech has traveled to the metroplex to prelude the Big 12 Championships, which will be held April 14-16 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Â
The NCAA Regional round this year will take place May 6-8 at four sites with host schools including Michigan State, Washington, Auburn and Oklahoma. The top six finishing teams from each regional site will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Â
Despite the loss of veterans Gabby Barker and Lauren Mason, Robertson still returns four regulars in the lineup in senior Mami Yamamoto, redshirt sophomore Sofia Garcia and sophomores Amy Taylor and Louisa Brunt. Tech will have four freshmen join the roster next week in Destiny Arenas, Cecilie Nielsen, Anna Dong and Maddie Goldberg.
