Louisa Brunt claimed the Medrington Trophy last week at Royal Birkdale Golf Club
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf program had another strong week on the amateur circuit as sophomore Louisa Brunt won the Medrington Trophy while fellow sophomore Amy Taylor recorded a top-20 finish at the English Women's Amateur Championship.
Brunt sank her first career hole-in-one en route to winning at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, which most recently hosted The Open Championship in 2017. The course is in the rotation to host both The Open Championship as well as the Women's British Open.
Brunt, who claimed the prestigious trophy in her native England, is coming off a strong freshman season where she averaged 76.3 strokes per round. Her best performance came late in the season when she finished tied for fourth at the Lady Boilermaker Classic followed by a top-20 showing at the Big 12 Championships.
Taylor, meanwhile, closed the English Girls' Open Amateur Championship in a tie for 17th place after combining to shoot 13-over-par over four rounds. She was near the top of the leaderboard after firing a 2-under 72 to start the tournament followed by 3-over, 8-over and 4-over cards.
Brunt and Taylor are two of four returners to the Red Raiders' roster this season, which begins Sept. 15-16 at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Michigan. Tech will announce its full 2018-19 slate later this week.
