Bautista Places First as Men and Women Sweep TTU Open

Texas Tech wins the fall’s lone home meet by wide margin.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech again swept the men's and women's team results of their race, this time successfully defending their home course in a field of 14 schools at the Texas Tech Open.

In his first race back after taking a redshirt year last year, Miguel Bautista got his fall started off right, taking first in his season debut. He finished with a time of 25:44.0.

Bautista was followed by four other Red Raiders who also landed in the top-10. Freshman Cornelius Kiprotich finished sixth with a 26:54.7. He was trailed by Joacim Zuniga, who crossed just behind him with a 26:57.4 to place seventh. Rounding out the ninth and tenth spots were Michael Benoit (27:07.9) and Nathan Gift (27:15.6).

On the women's side, Nokuthula Dlamini was the first to cross while running unattached. She turned in an 18:23.1. The first scorer for the women's squad was Lauren Offerman and her sixth-place time of 18:53.0. Right behind her was Bret Leigh Nance, who ran an 18:53.8. In 12th place was Seselia Dala, who made her Texas Tech debut with a time of 19:07.1. Rounding out the women's scorers was fellow freshman Jazmyn Martinez, who placed 13th with a 19:30.2.

Next in the Red Raiders' sights is the Nuttycombe Invitational at Wisconsin, which will be held on Sept. 28.Â
