Lady Raider Tennis Wraps Tournament in Fort Worth

Texas Tech has successful showing in four-day tournament

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Lady Raider Tennis team closed out TCU's Big 5 Challenge with 14 singles victories and five doubles wins over the four-day event.

Freshman Sydney Jones led the team with a 3-1 weekend. She picked up wins over Missouri's Gabrielle Goldin (3-6, 6-3, 10-3) and Marta Oliveira (6-2, 7-5). The newcomer also captured a win over Dori Mesmer (Virginia Tech) in straight sets.

Seniors Felicity Maltby and Francesca Sella and freshmen Kennedy Bridgforth and Isa Di Laura posted 2-2 records over the four-day tournament.

No. 37 Maltby took down Renee McBryde of Texas A&M (6-2, 6-3) and Missouri's Serena Nash (7-5, 6-1) in straight sets. The senior dropped to two ranked opponents, No. 39 Jaeda Daniel of Auburn (6-4, 6-0) and No. 76 Marta Gonzalez of Georgia (6-0, 6-2).

In her first tournament in the Lady Raider uniform, Francesca Sella took down Lindsay Song (Auburn) 6-2, 7-5, and Katya Townsend (Texas A&M) before dropping two matches to Meg Kowalski (Georgia) and Taylor Gruber (Missouri).

This was the first weekend in the Red and Black for Kennedy Bridgforth. The newcomer took down the senior Caroline Turner from Auburn in comeback fashion (4-6, 6-0, 10-2) on the opening day. Bridgforth captured a two-set win over Georgia's Annette Goulak to secure her second win of the season.

Isa Di Laura captured her two wins in straight sets. She started the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Auburn's Annabella Bowen before defeating Virginia Tech's Dori Mesmer in 12 straight games (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles action, Felicity Maltby and Nell Miller went 2-0 on the weekend. The duo took down Texas A&M's McBryde and Goldsmith, 6-1, on the opening day. The two improved to 2-0 with a 7-6(1) victory over Missouri's Middlebrooks and Wright.

Kennedy Bridgforth and Lana Rush also went 2-0 in doubles play over the weekend. The pair posted a 7-5 victory over A&M's Faa-Hviding and McQuaid before capturing a 6-4 win over Missouri's Nash and Fukutoku.
