The Red Raiders will send players to both Houston and Tulsa this weekend.
HOUSTON, Texas/Tulsa, Okla. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team continues its fall slate with two tournaments this weekend, at the Texas Tamale Rice Invitational and Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championship.
The Texas Tamale Rice Invitational is a 12-team event with opponents from Army, Denver, University of Louisiana, Rice and Texas among others. Matheus Leite will be the lone representative for the Red Raiders, as the sophomore from Sao Paulo looks to improve from his first tournament at the Chowder Fest earlier this fall.
"This will be a good event for Matheus to get some competitive matches in and see what he has improved on from Harvard," head coach Brett Masi said. "Just like the other guys, we are looking to see progressions and this will be a good test to see where he is at."
In Tulsa, Tommy Mylnikov, Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn begin their qualifying rounds on Monday at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa.
Wynn, who was recently ranked as the No. 64 singles player in the nation, reached the quarterfinals of the Battle in the Bay tournament in San Francisco a week ago, his second tournament as a member of the Red Raiders.
The No. 60 ranked duo of Mylnikov and Jackson Cobb will aim to build upon their quarterfinal finish at the Battle in the Bay, as they also begin their qualifying sessions on Monday.
Tech will next compete at the ITA Texas Regionals in Waco on Oct. 18th before heading to Los Angeles for the SoCal Intercollegiates the following weekend.
