January 23, 2019 | Track and Field
The world’s leading 200m runner secured a second-straight Big 12 Men’s Athlete of the Week for Texas Tech.
IRVING, Texas – A world-leading 20.41 in the 200m at last weekend's Red Raider Open merited weekly honors from the Big 12 for Andrew Hudson. The Texas Tech senior made it two straight weeks a Red Raider has been named Big 12 Men's Athlete of the Week.
Hudson is the third Red Raider to be honored by the Big 12 this season, the other two being Odaine Lewis and Zarriea Willis after their performances in the opening Corky Classic.
Hudson notched his personal best – which also leads the NCAA and Big 12 – just an hour before anchoring the 4x400 team to the second-fastest time in program history. Together with Divine Oduduru, Vincent Crisp and Tyreek Mathis, he turned in a 3:04.93. This came just a week after PR'ing in the 60m and blazing a 46.3 split to close out the win over Houston.
Hudson and the rest of the Red Raiders will face their toughest challenge of the season yet, as Tech will welcome five ranked men's teams and six ranked women's teams to Lubbock this weekend for the Texas Tech Classic. The meet will begin Thursday with combined events, while the rest of the meet will take place Friday and Saturday. Tickets may be purchased here.
