Texas Tech won its first match at Iowa State since the 2004 season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Freshman Caitlin Dugan led the Red Raiders with 12 kills as the Texas Tech volleyball team (13-6, 3-2 Big 12) picked up a 3-1 win at Iowa State (11-6, 2-3 Big 12) for the first time in 15 years on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Â
The last Red Raider victory at Hilton Coliseum dates back to Sept. 25, 2004, when Tech posted an identical 3-1 win over the Cyclones. Dugan was joined in double-digit kills by Emily Hill (11) and sophomore Brooke Kanas followed closely behind with eight kills of her own.
Â
Middle blockers Allison White and Karrington Jones served as a strong force for the Red Raiders as they threw up numerous blocks throughout the match. White finished the contest with two solo blocks and three block assists while Jones collected one solo block and four block assists.
Â
Hill, who picked up her 11th double-double of the season, led Tech with 14 digs and Emerson Solano (13) and Kylie Rittimann (10) were the other Red Raiders to finish with double-digit digs.
Â
The Red Raiders struggled out of the gate and found themselves trailing 5-0 before an Iowa State blocking error gave them their first point of the match. Hill laid down Tech's first kill of the match to cut into ISU's lead 6-2 and a huge block on the left side from Dugan and White kept the Red Raiders on the Cyclones' heels. After falling behind by seven points, the Red Raiders offense woke up and went on an 8-2 run that brought the set within one point at 14-13. The momentum swing saw aces from Hill and Solano and an ace from Katy Northcut later tied the set at 15 points apiece. An ISU attack error gave Tech its first lead of the day at 17-16 and Hill's fourth kill of the match forced a Cyclone timeout. From there, the teams three two more times until back-to-back points for the Red Raiders – an ISU service error and kill from White – gave Tech a 23-21 edge. ISU's third attack error moved the Red Raiders to set point and a hard kill from Dugan, who led the set with six kills, clinched the opening stanza 25-22.
Â
