RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Head coach Tony Graystone is just one win away from the 500th victory of his coaching career.
- After a solid performance at Iowa State, freshman Caitlin Dugan picked up the first weekly award of her career and was named the Big 12 Volleyball Rookie of the Week, announced by the league on Monday. Rising to the occasion, she posted a team-leading 12 kills to help the Red Raiders to their first win at Iowa State since Sept. 25, 2004. Dugan, who finished the match with a .345 hitting percentage, ranked in the league's top 10 with 3.00 kills per set. The Gilbert, Ariz., native kicked off the match with six kills on a .500 hitting percentage in the first set, then helped Tech maintain its momentum with a pair of kills in the last three sets. Dugan also played her role at the net with three big block assists that came in the first, second and fourth sets.
- Emily Hill continues to succeed and ranks in the nation's top 20 in kills per set (20th), points per set (21st) and attacks per set (10th). Additionally, her 325 kills ranks seventh in the nation, her 920 attacks rank fourth overall and her363.5 points sits eighth among all Division I student-athletes.
- Making even bigger strides in her sophomore season, middle blocker has made her presence known among the other Big 12 contenders. Jones ranks 11th in the league with .95 blocks per set and seventh in the conference with a .321 hitting percentage. The Little Elm, Texas, native carries a .372 hitting percentage in Big 12 Conference play.
- Tech's Saturday win over the Cyclones marked the first time since 2004 that the Red Raiders have won at Iowa State. Similarly, Tech's last victory at Iowa State was a 3-1 win on Sept. 25, 2004.
- Three Red Raiders will celebrate birthdays in the month of October. Sharing the same birthday, junior Emerson Solano and freshman Kylie Trefflich (who will turn 21 and 19, respectively) will celebrate their special days on Friday, Oct. 18, before sophomore Brooke Kanas turns 20 years old on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
- Junior Emerson Solano continues to impress on the floor after she took over as Tech's starting libero last season. Solano leads the Red Raiders and ranks fifth in the Big 12 Conference with 3.83 digs per set and second overall with 272 total digs.
- Three Red Raiders have started every single match this season. Emily Hill, Allison White and Emerson Solano have been a stronghold for the Red Raiders after starting all 19 matches in 2019.
- Proving to be a strong defensive weapon for the Red Raiders, senior Emily hill is just 14 digs away from the 1000th dig of her career. She accumulated 14 digs as a freshman at Mississippi State before posting 307 in her first season at Tech in 2017. Hill collected 288 digs as a junior last season and has already racked up 207 digs this year.
- You're not just seeing things. Freshmen Lauren Dodson and Lindsey Dodson are one of the few pairs of sisters to grace the Texas Tech volleyball program. The Dodsons are the first set of twins that head coach Tony Graystone has ever coach in his now 21st season of coaching.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student-athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
