Red Raider alumnae shot a 5-under round Sunday to move on to the LPGA Q-Series
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's golf alumnae Gabby (Barker) Lemieux advanced past the second stage of LPGA qualifying Thursday following a 5-under-par 67 final round at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
Â
Lemieux's final round moved her more than 20 spots up the leaderboard as she finished in a tie for 19th place at 6-under for the tournament. She was one of 40 players in the 185-player field to advance to the LPGA Q-Series qualifying tournament, which begins next Wednesday at historic Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Â
Lemieux opened the 72-hole tournament with a pair of 1-under 71 rounds followed by a 1-over 73 card Wednesday. Her 5-under card to close the tournament pushed her two strokes under the cut line to advance to the final stage of qualifying.
Â
The performance continues a strong month of golf for Lemieux, who made the cut at the LPGAÂ Volunteers of America Classic in early October where she finished in 76th place. She has already earned Symetra Tour status by advancing past the first and second stages of LPGA qualifying.
Â
Lemieux concluded her career among the top golfers in school history in 2018 as her 73.6 career stroke average snapped the previous record of current LPGA mainstay Kim Kaufman. Lemieux notched four individual titles during her career, which was the most in school history until Sofia Garcia matched that record earlier this year.
Â
The LPGA Q-Series will feature 144 holes of stroke play with cuts made after the sixth round. The tournament will be played over two separate weeks, running Oct. 23-26 and then Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at Pinehurst Resort.
