Dlamini, Dala lead host of PRs at Texas A&M.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech cross country finished its regular season with a strong performance at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational Saturday.
Leading the way were Nokuthula Dlamini and Seselia Dala, who both set personal records in the sixth-place effort by the women's team.
"What a meet for both the men and women," said head coach Jon Murray. "This was a very positive team performance with outstanding performances. It's a good indication of where our training is going."
Dlamini was the highest finisher for the Lady Raiders, taking sixth place overall with a collegiate-best 20:36.9. Dala was right behind her, running 20:38.6 to finish with a PR by nearly a minute.
"I'm so proud of Nokuthula and SeSe's top-10 performances," Murray said. "They were strong leaders for the women's team."
Claudrice McKoy, whom Murray was hoping would continue to grow in her first year in Lubbock, was the next Tech finisher, crossing in a 59th-place 21:55.0.
The men's side was highlighted by Takieddine Hedeilli, who placed third overall for the highest Tech finish of the season. Hedeilli, running in his first race in the Scarlet & Black, ran the 8k in 23:38.5. His debut was highly anticipated entering the season.
"Takieddine had a nice opening race," Murray said. "It is going to be exciting to see where he goes this year."
The men's team placed 11th in a strong field of competition. Cornelius Kiprotich finished as the next best Red Raider, crossing in a PR 24:26.2 and finishing in 26th place. Nathan Gift continued to show as a solid number three in his senior season, also PR'ing with a 24:58.6 to place 54th overall.
An exciting team performance in hand by both the men and women, Tech is fully ready for the Big 12 Championships, set to take place Nov. 2 in Waco.
