Red Raiders in First after Impressive First Day in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team shot rounds of 274 and 278 to conclude play at 24-under par at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos.
Sunday's opening round tied the lowest overall mark and was the second sub-275 score in program history.
The Red Raiders benefited from the stellar play across the board, as four of their five golfers finished under par. Gala Dumez and Amy Taylor both finished the day at 8-under are tied for first place in the individual race. The pair combined for 19 birdies and an eagle over 36 holes.
Sofia Garcia also turned in an imposing card with nine birdies of her own to wrap up play at 7-under, good enough for a tie for 5th place.
The trio of Dumez, Garcia and Taylor make Tech the only team with three players in the top-five entering Monday's final round.
Louisa Brunt concluded play at 1-under following an initial 18-hole score of 3-under and is in a tie for 33rd. Anna Dong rounded out play in a tie for 43rd at 1-over.
The Red Raiders will enter Monday's final round with a share of the lead as they are scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT.
