October 21, 2019 | Women's Golf
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team rounded out the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos with a team score of 294 and a second place finish.
After concluding the first two rounds with a share of the lead at 24-under, the Red Raiders posted three individual rounds over par to fall behind first place Ole Miss, who finished the tournament at 28-under. The runner-up placing for the Red Raiders is the second top-two finish of the year and the third time Tech has finished in the top-three.
"I'm so proud of our team and their great play this week," head coach JoJo Robertson said. We improved on several areas we've been working on. The conditions were definitely tougher in the final round and they did what they needed to do and hung in there."
Tech was led by junior Sofia Garcia on Sunday, who recorded her fourth-consecutive top-10 finish of the fall semester by notching birdies in four of her last eight holes to end up in a tie for third at 8-under.
Amy Taylor and Gala Dumez both carded rounds of 3-over after entering Monday's round in a tie for first at 8-under. Taylor and Dumez both finished in a tie for ninth place. It is the first top-10 finish for both players this season. Louisa Brunt rounded out scoring for the Red Raiders with a round of 1-over to complete play at even par and a tie for 31st.
Anna Dong withdrew from the final round in San Marcos with an ankle injury.
The Red Raiders will close out their fall slate with an international trip to Cabo, Mexico for the Battle at the Beach from Nov. 1-3.
