Men's Tennis Travels to Waco for ITA Texas Regionals
October 24, 2019 | Men's Tennis
WACO, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team will continue their fall tournament schedule with a trip to Waco for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regionals this weekend.
Â
The Red Raiders return to Waco a year after seniors Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn racked up four doubles wins over three days and finished runner-up. They will be searching for their first title since the fall of 2017, where senior Jackson Cobb and former Red Raider great Alex Sendegeya captured the doubles title in College Station.
Â
The tournament will feature the top competitors from the conference and state of Texas, featuring the likes of host Baylor, TCU, Texas, SMU and Texas A&M, among others.
Â
Tech will be one of the more experienced squads in the event, as it returns five players to the Texas Regionals who won at least one match in last year's event, including Ilgiz Valiev, who won his first two matches a year ago and advanced to the round of 16 in singles action.
Â
Cobb will also participate in the tournament following a 2018 appearance in the round of 16 in doubles play. Justin Bloss will contend in his third-consecutive Regionals.
Â
Sophomore Franco Ribero and freshman Reed Collier are set to make their ITA Regional debuts this weekend. Ribero will be playing in his second tournament of the semester, while Collier will make his third career appearance.
Â
