HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE: Texas Tech 25, Oklahoma 22
The beginning of the set was dominated by the Sooners as Oklahoma jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Tech's first three points came from an OU service error and two Red Raider kills from Trefflich and Dugan. Sparking a slew of Red Raider points, OU committed a service error and sent Tech on a timely 7-0 run. The seven-point swing was highlighted by a couple of kills from Trefflich while Hill added an ace and a kill. Boyer picked up her third block of the set as Tech led 13-9. OU came back to tie up the set at 19-19 and both teams traded points back and forth. The Red Raiders went up 23-22 after winning a long rally on a kill from Trefflich and Hill finished off the opening stanza, 25-22, with her third kill of the set.
SET TWO: Oklahoma 25, Texas Tech 21
The Sooners jumped out to another early lead on three attack errors by the Red Raiders. Boyer put Tech on the board with a hard-hit kill that started a 4-0 Red Raider run. During the run, Tech tallied kills from three different Red Raiders – Boyer, Trefflich and Allison White – while Solano picked up her first ace of the match. After swapping points, Dugan collected her second kill of the set to tie things up, 15-15. A block from Dugan and Karrington Jones ended a 6-1 swing for the Sooners and cut Tech's deficit down to four points at 21-17. Trefflich used a hard kill on the right side to try to start a late comeback, but the Sooners added a kill of their own to win the set, 25-21.
SET THREE: Oklahoma 27, Texas Tech 25
Tech fell behind, 3-1, early in the third set, but three Sooner errors and a kill from White closed the gap and Tech took a 5-4 advantage. An ace from Solano brought Tech within one point at 21-11 and Dugan continued her hot streak with two more kills to keep the Red Raiders within striking distance. After Tech tied up the set on three separate occasions, a huge block at the hands of Dugan and White gave the Red Raiders a narrow, 22-21 lead. After being up 24-22, the Red Raiders could not capitalize on the set point and the Sooners came back to win in extra points, 27-25.
SET FOUR: Oklahoma 26, Texas Tech 24
After another slow start put Tech in an early 6-1 deficit, the Red Raiders fought their way back into the set with four straight points highlighted by an ace from Solano. Tying up the set, 10-10, Jones picked up her first kill of the match with a statement kill at the end of a long rally. Hill, White and Dugan combined for a handful of kills and a timely OU attack error tied up the set once more at 16-16. OU pulled ahead 21-17 on Red Raider attack errors, but Hill interrupted a 5-1 run for the Sooners with a pair of kills. Trailing by four, Hill registered a trio of kills and a commanding swing from Jones forced a timeout and brought the set within one point at 22-21. An OU attack error tied up the set at 22-all and Brooke Kanas laid down her first kill of the match to keep the set even at 23 points. Another rocket off the hand of Kanas moved Tech to set point, but OU answered back with three straight points and claimed the match, 3-1, with a 26-24 win in the final set.
With the loss, Tech falls to 14-8 on the season and an even 4-4 in Big 12 Conference play.
