October 31, 2019 | Women's Golf
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The Texas Tech women's golf team will compete in their final tournament of the fall semester this weekend at the Battle at the Beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The Red Raiders return to Mexico for the first time since 2006, where Tech took sixth place at the Baja Invitational.
The Battle at the Beach will be held at Club Campestre San Jose, a par-71 Jack Nicklaus designed-course that opened in 2007.
The tournament will feature a stout field of 15 teams that features nine squads in the top-50 of Golfweek Magazine's collegiate rankings, including Vanderbilt (10), Ole Miss (16), LSU (18), Virginia Tech (21), Denver (35), Texas Tech (43), Texas A&M (48), San Jose State (49) and Augusta (50).
Head coach JoJo Robertson will roll out a lineup this weekend consisting of Sofia Garcia, Amy Taylor, Louisa Brunt, Gala Dumez and Cecilie Nielsen. It is the first time Robertson has utilized this grouping this year.
Tech will be headed by ANNIKA Award Watch List honoree Garcia, who leads the Red Raiders with a 69.55 stroke average over 11 rounds in the fall, including a solo title and top-five finishes in all four of the team's competitions this season.
Brunt and Taylor join Garcia in the weekend's roster. Brunt has notched a pair of top-10 postings in three events this year, including a tie for 5th at the Illini Invitational in early October. Taylor, who is one of three Red Raiders to play in 11 rounds this season, has recorded a team second-leading low round of 67 and a stroke average of 73.
Dumez, in her first year as a Red Raider, has impressed early on with two rounds under par and most recently a tie for 9th finish at the Jim West Challenge. Nielsen will round out competition for Tech in what will be her third tournament of the fall.
