
Red Raiders in Sixth Following First Day of Illini Invitational

Texas Tech women's golf team closes Monday with a round of 4-under par
MEDINAH, Ill. – The Texas Tech women's golf team finished day one of the Illini Invitational in sixth place following rounds of 294 and 284 at Medinah Country Club.
The Red Raiders played two rounds of consecutive stroke play to begin the tournament on Monday.
Tech began the event with nine birdies in the opening 18 holes and were led by junior Sofia Garcia, who continued her strong start to the season by firing off a 69 with three birdies and 15 pars. Amy Taylor, after starting the tournament with four bogeys in her first nine holes, roared back with three birdies to finish the first round at 2-over.
The Red Raiders found their groove later in the day and carded the third-best second round at 4-under overall. Taylor began round two with a birdie and continued to light the course on fire, as she finished with five birdies to conclude play on Monday at 2-under in a tie for 17th place. Garcia maintained her spot at 3-under with a 72 and currently sits in a tie for 10th.
Louisa Brunt and Anna Dong also battled back in the second round, as the two went 1-over and 1-under, respectively, and will enter Tuesday's final round in the top-50. Freshman Gala Dumez closed out the day with rounds of 6-over and 4-over.
Tech will enter the final round of play just four shots back of a third-consecutive top-three finish. The third round will begin at approximately 9 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
