RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Texas Tech earned its first conference win of the season in a thrilling, 3-1 victory over the Mountaineers on Sept. 25. The Red Raiders won the first two sets 25-23, 25-20 before West Virginia interrupted with a 25-23 win in set three. Despite the hiccup, Tech battled back and clinched the final set, 25-19.
- On Thursday, senior Emily Hill was honored for her efforts in the classroom and was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team. Hill carries a 3.74 GPA as a sports management major.
- Junior Allison White is just 19 blocks away from reaching the 300th block of her career. She tallied 121 blocks as a freshman in 2017 before racking up 80 as a sophomore in 2018. White currently boasts 80 blocks this season. Only 10 Red Raiders have recorded 318 or more blocks in program history.
- Senior Emily Hill collected the 200th block of her career on Wednesday at Oklahoma. She has also recorded double-digit kills in all 26 matches this season.
- A handful of Tech players rank in the league's top 10. Emily Hill sits second overall with 4.28 kills per set (first in the league with 424 kills) and 4.76 points per set (first in the league with 471.5 points). Emerson Solano ranks third in the league with 4.00 digs per set, Tatum Rohme ranks sixth with 9.67 assists per set, Alex Kirby sits seventh overall with 9.63 assists per set and Karrington Jones ranks 10th in the league with .98 blocks per set.
- The Red Raiders are looking for their first win at West Virginia since Oct. 14, 2015.
- The Red Raiders celebrated birthdays last week. Senior Kylie Rittimann turned 22 years old on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (game day against Kansas) and twins Lauren and Lindsey Dodson celebrated their 19th birthday on Friday, Nov. 8.
- Picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, Texas Tech has posted three victories over higher-seeded conference opponents. Tech topped fourth-ranked Iowa State (3- 1), Kansas State (3-0) and Kansas (3-2) in the front half of Big 12 play.
- The Red Raiders have posted a trio of key wins against teams ranked higher in the NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI. Tech opened up the season with a clean sweep over VCU – who currently ranks 53rd – before edging 47th-ranked Ohio State, 3-2. Tech's other victory against a higher-ranked team came when they downed Iowa State (38th) by a score of 3-1 in Ames, Iowa.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student-athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
