Gabby Lemieux obtained Symetra Tour status for 2020 after finishing among top 80 at LPGA Q-Series
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's golf alumnae Kim Kaufman will once again play at the highest level of professional golf as she finished in a tie for 30th Saturday during the final round of LPGA Q-School at historic Pinehurst Golf Club in North Carolina.
Â
Kaufman wrapped the two week, eight round tournament at a 3-over-par 575, finishing two strokes ahead of the cut line that guaranteed the top 45 players LPGA status for the 2020 season. It will be her seventh year on the LPGA Tour after making her debut in 2014.
Â
The South Dakota native signed four under-par cards over the course of the 144-hole tournament as Kaufman began with a 5-under 65 opening round and ended with a 1-under score Saturday. She mixed in a pair of 2-under cards in the second and sixth rounds.
Â
Kaufman has earned more than $1.4 million over her professional career after departing Texas Tech in 2013 as a two-time All-America selection. She averaged 74.0 strokes per round over her Red Raider career, which now ranks second all-time in program history behind another Q-Series participant in Gabby (Barker) Lemieux.
Â
Lemieux secured Symetra Tour status for the 2020 season after finishing in a tie for 71st place. The 2020 season will be the first as a full Symetra Tour member for Lemieux, who has played on several smaller tours with a mixture of LPGA events since her Red Raider playing career ended following the 2017-18 season. Â
Â
Lemieux, who made the cut at the LPGA Volunteers of America Classic in early October, was in contention to finish among the top-45 players with Kaufman until a difficult final two round stretch where she combined to shoot 12-over. She automatically earned Symetra Tour status by finishing among the top-80 players prior to the field getting cut after six rounds.
Â
Kaufman and Lemieux represent two of three Red Raiders who have earned All-America status during head coach JoJo Robertson's 10 seasons leading the women's golf program. Â
