RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- In week 10 of the season, the Red Raiders remain at No. 65 in the RPI rankings for the second consecutive week.
- Junior Emerson Solano is just 28 digs away from collecting the 1,000th dig of her career. She posted 171 as a freshman, 444 in her sophomore season and has already collected 357 digs this season.
- Senior Emily Hill ranks second in the Big 12 Conference with 4.35 digs per set and 4.86 points per set. Several other Red Raiders rank in the league's top 10 – Emerson Solano ranks third with 4.00 digs per set, Allison White ranks ninth with a .294 hitting percentage, Karrington Jones sits ninth with 1.01 blocks per set, Tatum Rohme ranks sixth with 9.84 assists per set and Alex Kirby ranks seventh with 9.75 assists per set.
- Since making her return to the floor, sophomore setter Alex Kirby has been averaging 10.3 assists per setÂ. Kirby had to sit out 13 matches at the start of the season due to a stress fracture in her foot.
- Texas Tech is 24-15 when playing Baylor at home in Lubbock.
- Junior Allison White is just 22 blocks away from reaching the 300th block of her career. She tallied 121 blocks as a freshman in 2017 before racking up 80 as a sophomore in 2018. White currently boasts 77 blocks this season. Only 10 Red Raiders have recorded 318 or more blocks in program history. Â
- Three Red Raiders have birthdays this week. Senior Kylie Rittimann turned 22 years old on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (game day against Kansas) and twins Lauren and Lindsey Dodson are set to celebrate their 19th birthday on Friday, Nov. 8.
- Last week, junior Emerson Solano picked up the first weekly honor of her career and was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a strong performance against Oklahoma. Solano led all Big 12 student-athletes with a career-high 31 digs and 7.75 digs per set against the Sooners. Her new personal best was the most digs recorded by any Big 12 player in four sets this season and her 31-dig performance sits at No. 6 in the Texas Tech record book in four-set contests. In addition to her bar-setting efforts on the back row, Solano finished the Red Raiders' match against Oklahoma with three service aces (which tied her career-high) and five assists.
- Picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, Texas Tech has posted three victories over higher-seeded conference opponents. Tech topped fourth-ranked Iowa State (3- 1), Kansas State (3-0) and Kansas (3-2) in the front half of Big 12 play.
- The next block Emily Hill picks up will be the 200th block of her career.
- The Red Raiders have posted a trio of key wins against teams ranked higher in the NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI. Tech opened up the season with a clean sweep over VCU – who currently ranks 48th – before edging 50th-ranked Ohio State, 3-2. Tech's other victory against a higher-ranked team came when they downed Iowa State (36th) by a score of 3-1 in Ames, Iowa.
- Emily Hill has recorded double-digit kills in every single match this season. Freshman Caitlin Dugan follows closely behind with nine double-digit kill matches and sophomore Brooke Kanas has tallied eight.Â
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student-athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
