December 16, 2019 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech freshman Terrence Shannon, Jr. has earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the first time in his career after helping to lead the Red Raiders to a 70-57 win over No. 1-ranked Louisville last Tuesday by scoring 13 points at Madison Square Garden.
A 6-foot-6 guard from Chicago, Shannon is averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds through nine games this season including going off for a career-high 24 points two weeks ago against DePaul. Shannon has started all nine games coming into tonight's game at 6 p.m. against Southern Mississippi for the Red Raiders who are 6-3 on the season and 4-0 on their home court. He has scored in double figures in five games, including scoring 13 against Tennessee State and Long Island to go along with the 13-point performance against the Cardinals where he knocked down four shots from the field and was 5 of 6 at the free-throw line. He now leads Tech with 35 made free throws.
Shannon is the third Red Raider to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors following TJ Holyfield and Jahmi'us Ramsey. Holyfield earned the award on Nov. 11 after a 21-point performance against Houston Baptist while Ramsey secured the honor on Nov. 25 after scoring a career-high 27 points against LIU. Tech is the only team to have three different players honored with conference awards this season.

His nine assists against Milwaukee (12/10) were a career high. The sophomore guard leads the Big 12 in scoring at 19.6 ppg and ranks among the conference leaders in field goal percentage (fourth), assists (sixth), free throw percentage (fourth) and steals (third).
