The Red Raiders will return to Lubbock for a doubleheader next weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team finished in fourth place at the annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
In their matchup with Arizona, Tech swept doubles play with a pair of 6-2 wins by Jackson Cobb and Tommy Mylnikov on court two and Ilgiz Valiev and Matheus Leite on court three. Doubles play was concluded on the evening of Friday, Feb. 22.
When singles play resumed on Saturday morning, Arizona would break momentum, as they took their first point of the match on court one in straight sets. The Red Raiders would bounce back and retake the match lead with a win by junior Parker Wynn on court two, as he defeated his opponent by a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 mark.
Following another Wildcat victory on court five, freshman Franco Ribero would once again come in clutch for Tech, as he claimed his seventh-straight win and continued his undefeated run to begin his collegiate career. However, with Tech needed just one point to clinch the match, Arizona would march back to take courts three and four to clinch the 4-3 win.
In their consolation bout with Alabama, the Red Raiders would once again secure the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. In singles play, Alabama would take over, as they won four matches to take the match at 4-1.
