Hudson Joins Oduduru in Bowerman Recognition
February 07, 2019 | Track and Field
Oduduru in top-10, Hudson receiving votes as The Bowerman releases mid-indoor watch list.
NEW ORLEANS – Texas Tech sprinters Divine Oduduru and Andrew Hudson were two of 19 student-athletes recognized by The Bowerman at the halfway point of the indoor season. Oduduru landed on the watch list, while Hudson received votes. Founded in 2009, The Bowerman is considered the highest accolade a collegiate track athlete can earn.
Oduduru's recognition as one of the top-10 track and field athletes in the nation comes after being named to the preseason watch list. Oduduru is one of eight to have made it from the preseason list to the mid-indoor one. The reigning outdoor 200m champion has competed in three meets so far this season. His highlight came in the 200m at the Texas Tech Classic, where in a stacked field he clocked a 20.51, which is currently good for third in the nation. The Nigerian sprinter was the USTFCCCA's preseason favorite to win the national title in the event.
Oduduru has also been strong in the 60m, running a 6.63 at the Red Raider Invite on Jan. 18. He will go in the 60m again this weekend in addition to the 4x400. Oduduru has been instrumental to Tech's relay squad, which ranks sixth in the nation with a top time of 3:04.93.
Hudson was listed just outside the top-10 as receiving votes for the prestigious award. Hudson currently sits atop the NCAA in the 200m with his 20.41 he turned in at the Red Raider Invite. The mark stood as the top in the world at the time. One week later, the Cibolo, Texas, native ran a world-leading 6.56 in the 60m to place himself at the top of the world rankings for that event as well. Like Oduduru, Hudson has been a main fixture in Tech's strong 4x400 squad.
