Texas Tech and New Mexico will meet in Albuquerque for the first of two midweek series this season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 11 Texas Tech baseball team will spend its midweek in Albuquerque for a two-game series at New Mexico, starting Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT before wrapping up with a 2 p.m. CT first pitch on Wednesday from Santa Anna Star Field.
Â
Both games will be streamed online on the Mountain West Network, and can be heard on the Texas Tech Sports Network on 97.3 FM, the 97.3 app, the TuneIn app and at TexasTech.com. Live stats will also be available through GoLobos.com.
Â
The two-game set in Albuquerque is the first of two midweek series between the two teams this season with the other set for Apr. 23-24 in Lubbock. Tech enters Tuesday's game 5-0 in midweeks this season.
Â
Overall, the Red Raiders are 73-46-1 all-time against New Mexico in a series that dates back to 1962. Last season Tech swept the season series with the Lobos, including a 20-9 win in Albuquerque that improved Tech to 26-26-1 in games played in Albuquerque.
Â
The Red Raiders have won six of their last seven against New Mexico and are 109-65-1 all-time against current members of the Mountain West Conference. Head coach Tim Tadlock enters Tuesday with an 11-6 mark against the Lobos.
Â
Tech is coming off a Big 12 road series victory at Kansas State last weekend. Friday night's game was postponed to Saturday due to rain, and the Red Raiders responded by sweeping the Saturday doubleheader, 11-4 and 4-3. Senior Cameron Warren hit three doubles on Sunday and sophomore Dylan Neuse hit his fifth homer of the year, but the Wildcats rallied with three runs in the seventh to salvage the finale.
Â
The Red Raiders are in the midst of their toughest road stretch of the season, with last weekend's trip to Manhattan launching 10-of-13 games away from home, with five different cities included on the tour. Tech returns home this weekend to host its Big 12 home-opening series, then will travel to Midland for a midweek neutral-site game against New Mexico State, Morgantown, W.Va., for a three-game series at West Virginia and Durham, N.C., for a one-game series with Duke.
Â
Texas Tech ranks in the top 25 nationally in several offensive categories so far this season. Tech can pile up the runs with the best of them, ranking 18th in scoring. The Red Raiders can get runners on and hit for extra bases almost equally as well, sliding in at 21st in on-base percentage and 23rd in slugging percentage.
Â
Leading the charge for Tech offensively has been newcomer Dylan Neuse. The sophomore out of McLennan JC is hitting a team-best .393, has reached base safely in 23-of-24 games and is 11-for-11 on the base paths. He ranks second on the team in home runs (5), ranks 15th nationally with four triples and is one of three Red Raiders with 20 or more walks on the year.
Â
After two weeks of Big 12 play, Tech is in a tie for fourth in the Big 12 standings. The Red Raiders return to Lubbock this weekend for its Big 12 home opener on Friday against Kansas. Aiming for its third Big 12 title in four seasons, Tech will finish the year by hosting four of its final six conference matchups inside the friendly confines of Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Â
Texas Tech settled in as high as No. 11 in the rankings this week after spending last week back in the top 10. After beginning the season as high as No. 3 in the preseason rankings, Tech has been in the top 10 by at least one poll for 6-of-8 weeks this season.
Â
