Texas Tech shoots second-best 12-over on Tuesday
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team shot 12-over in the final round of play to finish in fifth place at the 2019 Big 12 Championship in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Â
"I'm really pleased with how we fought back," head coach JoJo Robertson said. "We have things we still need to work on, but I feel that we've gotten better every week and we're close to where we want to be. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish in the next couple of weeks."
Â
The Red Raiders, who entered the final round of play in seventh place, shot the second-lowest card in the field, as they finished with a 12-over 300 score on Tuesday to conclude the tournament only one shot back of fourth.Â
Tech was led over the final 18 holes by sophomore Sofia Garcia and freshman Cecilie Nielsen, who both shot a 1-over 73 final round. Nielsen carded a team-leading five birdies en route to a tournament total of 14-over, good enough for a tie for 17th place. Garcia's three-day tally of 10-over placed her in eighth place.
Â
Senior Mami Yamamoto became the third Red Raider to finish in the top-25 after shooting 6-over to conclude her tournament at 18-over, putting her in a tie for 25th on the individual leaderboard.
Â
Freshman Louisa Brunt put together her best round of the week, as she birdied the final hole to shoot 4-over. Her final mark of 21-over put her in a tie for 32nd. Anna Dong, following a 7-over round on Tuesday, also finished at 21-over.
Â
The Red Raiders will learn their postseason fate in a week's time when each of the four NCAA Regional fields are unveiled at 5:30 p.m. CT on April 24 live on the Golf Channel.
