Stollings names Bond assistant coach after four years at Michigan State
LUBBOCK, Texas – Alysiah Bond, a highly respected coach with national recruiting ties, has joined the Texas Tech program as an assistant coach, Lady Raiders' Head Coach Marlene Stollings announced Monday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Alysiah to the Texas Tech family. Alysiah is a proven winner who has worked alongside some of the best in women's basketball including the late Pat Summitt at Tennessee," Stollings said. "She has one of the most infectious personalities in coaching and brings an extraordinary ability to build relationships and elevate student athletes both on and off the court. Her decision to come to Texas Tech will enhance the future of our program."
As a seasoned veteran, Bond joins the staff after four seasons at Michigan State where she helped the Spartans to three NCAA appearances and a Top 25 ranking in three of her four years. During her time in East Lansing, Mich., Bond helped sign one McDonald's All-American and a Top 10 recruiting class. Bond also coached a Top 10 WNBA draft pick in Tori Jankoska.
"Enduring relationships have long been a fundamental driving force in my life and the unique opportunity to reunite with my college teammate in this capacity for this storied program is truly an honor," Bond said. "Coach Marlene has always had a brilliant mind and has evolved into a visionary leader with a sharp focus and proven ability to elevate student-athletes and their respective programs to greatness. Her commitment and drive to re-energize Lady Raider basketball jumps off the page at you! She is a high energy change agent who makes you a believer that great things are ahead!"
The opportunity to support Coach Marlene's vision is one that I fully embrace. I look forward to building lasting relationships with our current, former and future Lady Raiders, their families and the Lubbock community."
Bond has extensive BCS experience including stints at Tennessee with legendary Hall of Fame Coach Pat Summitt as well as at Arizona and Wisconsin. She also held the position of Director of Special Programs for USA Basketball from 1997-98. She also spent time in sports broadcasting for both Tennessee and Ohio State.
She spent three years as a sportscaster at NBC stations in Knoxville, Tenn., and Columbus, Ohio, covering the University of Tennessee and Ohio State respectfully.
A native of Los Angeles, CA, Bond played point guard at Ohio State for four seasons and was teammates with Coach Marlene. She helped the Buckeyes advance to the NCAA Championship game in 1993, was named OSU's best defensive player and was a team captain during her last two seasons.
Bond graduated from Ohio State in 1995 with a degree in marketing.
