RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- After a solid performance against the Kansas Jayhawks last week, junior Karli Hamilton earned her third Big 12 Player of the Week award of the season on Tuesday, April 23. Hitting an even .500 on the week, Hamilton paced the Red Raiders with six hits, one home run, two doubles and three RBI against the Jayhawks. She led the league with 11 total bases and tied for the No. 1 spot in the conference with five runs – 1.7 runs per game – and two stolen bases.
- Tied for the No. 1 spot in the school record book, senior All-American Jessica Hartwell is one home run shy of becoming Tech's all-time career home run leader. IN her career as a Red Raider, Hartwell has collected 45 home runs. Her next home run will place her ahead of alumna Mikey Kenney, who set the record with 45 home runs from 2010-13.
- The Texas Tech softball team snapped a 21-year-old record of nine straight weeks in the Top 25 after it stood among the nation's leaders for the 10th consecutive week on Tuesday, April 23. Head coach Adrian Gregory's Red Raiders came in at No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball and Softball America Polls and No. 21 in the NCAA Women's Softball RPI. Tech has been ranked in top 15 of the NFCA Coaches Poll for eight straight weeks and has not dipped below No. 16 in the remaining polls since its initial ranking on Feb. 19. Tech's 1998 squad set the initial record after being ranked for nine consecutive weeks from March 18 – May 13. The Red Raiders went 45-19 under former head coach Renee Luers-Gillespie and finished fourth in the Big 12 Conference with a 10-7 record. The Red Raiders tied the record in 2011 after being ranked from Feb. 15 – May 24. Under the direction of then-head coach Shanon Hays, Tech finished the year with a 42-16 overall record and made its fourth-ever NCAA Regional appearance in Tucson, Ariz., despite finishing eighth in the Big 12.
- Currently fourth in the Big 12 standings, Tech's series win against Kansas lifted the Red Raiders to 8-7 in league action and 35-9 overall – Adrian Gregory's best mark since becoming head coach in 2015. Tech leads the Big 12 with 118 hits in conference play and sits second in the league with a .336 average at the plate through 44 games.
- Serving as Tech's everyday third baseman, sophomore Breanna Russell rides a 12-game hitting streak into Friday's matchup. She has recorded one or more hits in Tech's last 12 games, which takes the lead for the longest hitting streak by a Red Raider this season. Russell currently ties for 24th in the nation with four sacrifice flies this year.
- Five Red Raiders – Heaven Burton, Karli Hamilton, Zoe Jones, Breanna Russell and Taylor Satchell – have started every game at their respective positions. In her freshman season, Jones has made 44 starts at second base while Burton has started every game in left field. Karli Hamilton holds the role of Tech's everyday center fielder and Breanna Russell has started every game of her career (103 games) at third base. Satchell took over second base in 2018 but has started all 44 games at shortstop in her senior season.
- Continuing a phenomenal junior campaign, Karli Hamilton moved into second all-time with a .432 season batting average. The Houston, Texas, native chases Kim Martinez – who set the single-season record of .492 in 1997. Hamilton set the program single-season record of six triples earlier in the season and currently ranks fourth all-time with a .726 single-season slugging percentage this year. Hamilton leads the Red Raiders with 20 multi-hit games this season and has reached base in the Red Raiders' last 18 games.
- The Red Raiders rank in the top 20 in a number of offensive categories. Tech ranks fourth in the nation in on-base percentage, 10th in batting average, 11th in slugging percentage, 14th with a .795 win/loss percentage and 16th in scoring.
- The Red Raiders have played just eight true away games this season and have compiled a 6-2 record on the road. While Tech boasts a 14-6 record at Rocky Johnson Field, the Red Raiders are an impressive 15-1 when playing at a neutral site.
- Enjoying a stronger offense than in season past, Tech is 21-8 when it scores first and 7-8 when opponents score first. The Red Raiders have out-hit their opponents 34 times this season and have out-scored opponents 288-120 through 44 games.
- In just 44 games, Tech has surpassed its home run production from the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Sophomore transfer Trenity Edwards leads the Red Raiders with 11 homers on the season and senior Taylor Satchell follows closely behind with 10. Karli Hamilton and Kelcy Leach have both sent seven hits out of the park and Jessica Hartwell rounds out the top five with six home runs this season.
