Tech Travels to New Mexico State for Midweek Doubleheader

The Red Raiders begin their last week of the regular season with doubleheader at New Mexico State.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Kicking off its last week of the regular season, the Texas Tech softball team (35-12, 8-10 Big 12) is set to play a doubleheader at New Mexico State on Tuesday, April 30, in Las Cruces, N.M.

Game one at NM State Softball Complex is set for 5 p.m. and game two will begin at approximately 7 p.m. Live stats, as well as a live stream, will be available for both games.

SERIES HISTORY
Entering Tuesday's doubleheader, the Red Raiders head to Las Cruces with twice the amount of wins than the Aggies. Tech holds a 24-12 all-time series lead over New Mexico State and is 9-6 when playing in Las Cruces. Tech's longest win streak ranged six games from April 17, 2004, to April 19, 2005. After not playing each other since 2015, the two teams met up and split a pair of games last season. Tech won game one, 7-4, but dropped game two of the doubleheader, 3-1. Head coach Adrian Gregory is 2-1 in her career against New Mexico State.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Writing her name atop the Texas Tech record book for the second time this season, senior All-American Jessica Hartwell unleashed a three-run home run against Oklahoma State on Saturday, April 27, to claim the title of Tech's all-time career home run leader. Hartwell tied Mikey Kenney's (2010-13) record of 45 career home runs on March 8, 2019, and boasts 47 after two homers in Stillwater. Hartwell hit a single-season record 20 home runs as a junior in 2018 and is Tech's all-time leader with 163 career RBI.
- Powering 56 home runs this season, the Red Raiders have eclipsed their 2018 mark of 50 home runs. The Red Raiders rank third in the league behind the Big 12's two Oklahoma schools and Trenity Edwards paces the Red Raiders with 11 home runs this season. Taylor Satchell follows closely behind with 10 homers, Kelcy Leach and Jessica Hartwell have both collected eight and Karli Hamilton rounds out the top five with seven long balls this season.
- The Red Raiders finished the Big 12 Conference season with an 8-10 record. They posted conference series wins over Iowa State, Baylor and Kansas and took one game away from the Texas Longhorns. Currently fourth, the team has tied head coach Adrian Gregory's highest finish since occupying the No. 4 spot in 2015.
- Continuing a fantastic junior season, Karli Hamilton leads the Big 12 Conference with a six triples and a .433 batting average and ties with Sydney Romero for the No. 1 spot with 68 hits – eight more than she collected in 2018. She ranks in the top 10 in RBI (36), steals (13), total bases (111), on-base percentage (.489) and slugging percentage (.707). In conference action, the Houston native leads the league with 29 hits.
- The Red Raiders sit just behind No. 1 Oklahoma with a .335 team batting average, a number that has ranked in the top 10 in the nation all season.
- Tech came in at No. 21 in this week's NCAA Women's Softball RPI. The Red Raiders have been ranked in the Top-25 RPI for seven straight weeks.
- Last week, the Texas Tech softball team snapped a 21-year-old record of nine straight weeks in the Top 25 after it stood among the nation's leaders for the 10th consecutive week on Tuesday, April 23. Head coach Adrian Gregory's Red Raiders came in at No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball and Softball America Polls and No. 21 in the NCAA Women's Softball RPI. Tech has been ranked in top 15 of the NFCA Coaches Poll for eight straight weeks and has not dipped below No. 16 in the remaining polls since its initial ranking on Feb. 19. Tech's 1998 squad set the initial record after being ranked for nine consecutive weeks from March 18 – May 13. The Red Raiders went 45-19 under former head coach Renee Luers-Gillespie and finished fourth in the Big 12 Conference with a 10-7 record. The Red Raiders tied the record in 2011 after being ranked from Feb. 15 – May 24. Under the direction of then-head coach Shanon Hays, Tech finished the year with a 42-16 overall record and made its fourth-ever NCAA Regional appearance in Tucson, Ariz., despite finishing eighth in the Big 12.
- The Red Raiders lead the Aggies in nearly every offensive category. Tech has 71 more runs, 76 more hits, 26 more walks but 18 more walks. The Tech pitching staff has posted lower numbers in most categories has limited opponents to a .225 batting average through 47 games.
