No. 15 Softball Hosts No. 11 Texas in Big 12 Showdown

The Red Raiders will take on the Longhorns this weekend at Rocky Johnson Field.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 15 Texas Tech softball team (29-6, 2-4 Big 12) is on the hunt for its 30th win of the season as it returns home to Rocky Johnson Field to face No. 11 Texas in a three-game series on April 5-7.

The Red Raiders and Longhorns will kick off the series with a 6 p.m. start on Friday, April 5. First pitch in game two is slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and the two teams will close out the series in front of a sold-out crowd at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. Live stats, as well as a live stream, will be available for all three games this weekend.

SERIES HISTORY
The Red Raiders enter the weekend with a 10-43 all-time series record against the Longhorns. The two teams first met back in 1997, but it was not until the 2000 season that Tech earned its first win over its in-state rival. The Red Raiders won their first series in that 2000 season and won its only other series over Texas during head coach Adrian Gregory's first season in 2015. Texas has won the last 10 contests and the last Red Raider victory was a 3-2 decision in Austin Texas on April 8, 2016. Gregory is 3-11 in her career against Texas.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- ÂÂ Now 29-6 on the season, the Red Raiders ranked 15th in the nation in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll and Softball America Poll. Tech has been ranked in the top 25 for seven-straight weeks and also came in at No. 16 in the NCAA Women's Softball RPI.
- Racking up three doubles in Sunday's game at Iowa State, sophomore Breanna Russell tied a school record that dates back 22 years. The Crosby, Texas, native tied Texas Tech great Kim Martinez, who set the record against Cornell on March 19, 1997.
- The Red Raiders clinched their first Big 12 series of the season at Iowa State. After rain postponed game one, Tech powered their way to an 8-3 victory before dropping game two, 6-5, later in the day. The Red Raiders rallied in game three and posted a come-from-behind victory to clinch the series.
- Utilizing its speed on the bases, Tech leads the conference with a whopping 64 stolen bases on the year. Pacing the Red Raiders is sophomore Heaven Burton, who leads the league with 15 stolen bases on the year. Jessica Hartwell follows closely behind in second with 13 stolen bases and Karli Hamilton ties for fifth in the league with 10 steals.
- Continuing a strong sophomore campaign, southpaw Erin Edmoundson ties for the No. 1 spot in the league with five shutouts. The only other Big 12 pitcher to record five shutouts is Miranda Elish of Texas. Edmoundson ties for 14th nationally, sits second in the Big 12 Conference with 13 wins and ranks fourth overall with 101 strikeouts.
- Tech continues its hot season at the plate with a .343 batting average that ranks second in the league and seventh in the country. Out of nine players with 50 at-bats or more, seven Red Raiders posted a batting average above .300.
- Assuming Tech's leadoff spot in the lineup, Karli Hamilton has been a solid force for the Red Raider offense. The junior from Houston leads the conference and ties for fourth in the nation with six triples, sits third in the Big 12 and ties for 17th nation-wide with 48 hits, and ranks third in the league and 38th in the NCAA with 81 total bases. Hamilton has reached base over the last nine games.
- Finding numerous ways to get on base, freshman Zoe Jones ranks third in the league with a .509 on-base percentage. The Mustang, Okla. Native has drawn 19 walks, has been plunked by a pitch four times and has racked up 32 hits in her first season with the Red Raiders.
- Tied for the No. 1 spot in the school record book, Jessica Hartwell is one home run shy of becoming Tech's all-time career home run leader. In her career at Tech, Hartwell has collected 45 home runs. Her next home run this season will place her ahead of alumna Mikey Kenney, who set the record with 45 home runs from 2010-13.
- Rocky Johnson Field was filled to capacity on Saturday, March 23, as 1,258 fans gathered to watch the first Top-15 series played in Lubbock. Previously ranked at No. 14/12, the Red Raiders played host to No. 2/2 Oklahoma in Tech's first Big 12 Conference series of the 2019 season. The record crowd broke the previous mark of 1,257 attendees on April 25, 2015, against the Texas Longhorns. Game three against the Sooners went down as the fourth-largest crowd in program history with 1,223 fans in attendance on March 24.
