LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech will start play in its 18th straight NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Monday where the Red Raiders are the No. 3 seed at the Myrtle Beach Regional at the TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Tech, which is No. 15 nationally in the Golfstat rankings, is scheduled to open the tournament at 8Â a.m. (CST) and is paired with top-seeded Wake Forest and Cal in the first of three rounds.
Tech will be represented at the regional by Sandy Scott, Ivan Ramirez, Kyle Hogan, Adam Blomme and Jansen Smith. The Red Raiders won the 2010 South Central Regional in College Station, was second in 2010 at the Lubbock Regional and is coming off a fifth-place showing at last year's Columbus Regional that advance them to the NCAA Championship and an eventual quarterfinals appearance. The program has advanced past the regional round 12 times in program history.
Ramirez will be playing in his third NCAA regional, while Scott and Blomme their second and Hogan and Smith are making their regional debut. Blomme finished seventh overall at last year's regional at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio after shooting 1-under to help the Red Raiders advance. A junior from Scotland, Scott is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation individually and the second-ranked player in the regional behind only Cal senior Collin Morikawa who enters the national postseason ranked No. 2 nationally.
The No. 10-ranked Red Raiders will be coming off a fifth-place finish at the Big 12 Conference Championship last weekend at The Greenbrier in West Virginia and have recorded tournament wins at the El Macero Classic and Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. Tech has seven top-5 finishes this season, including runner-up showings at the Lake Charles Invitational and Showdown in the Rockies. The Red Raiders will be joined at Myrtle Beach by Wake Forest, Cal, Illinois, Florida State, UNLV, Oregon, Ohio State, Northwestern, Oregon State, Cal State Fullerton, Middle Tennessee, VCU and Robert Morris.
The NCAA regional round consists of six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted Monday-Wednesday throughout the country. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The University of Arkansas is the host institution for the 2019 championships.Â
