Thomson and Wynn Fall in First Round of NCAA Doubles Championship

Veteran duo drop just their fourth ranked match of the year in three-set affair.
ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 9 ranked Texas Tech men's tennis tandem of Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn were defeated by No. 32 Niclas Braun and Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State by a score of 6-2, 6-7(3), [6-10] in the first round of play at the 2019 NCAA Doubles Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Thomson and Wynn surrendered only two games in the first set en route to a 6-2 opening frame.

In the second, the two would snag the opening point before ultimately surrendering the following two games to fall behind at 1-2. A back-and-forth battle in which the games were all square on five separate occasions would eventually go to a tiebreaker, where the Bulldogs prevailed to take the second set by a 7-6(3) margin.

In the 10-point winner-take-all third set, Mississippi State took control early and advanced to the second round of play with a 10-6 third set victory.

Tuesday's loss was just the second in the last five matches for Thomson and Wynn. The two complete their junior campaigns with 29 doubles wins, including 15 in dual match play, a team-best.
