Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn named All-Americans after concluding year with No. 10 national ranking
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech men's tennis players Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn have been named to the 2019 ITA All-America team for their efforts in doubles play, announced by the association on Thursday.
Â
"This is a wonderful accomplishment for these two guys," head coach Brett Masi said. "This rewards their level of consistency they showed throughout the year. I'm very proud of both of them and excited to see what they can do next year."
Â
Thomson and Wynn become just the sixth and seventh players in program history to garner All-America honors, joining Raony Carvalho (2010, 2012), Gonzalo Escobar (2012) Felipe Soares (2015), Hugo Dojas (2015) and Jolan Cailleau (2017).
Â
The pair of juniors have been awarded for their efforts during the 2018-19 campaign, where they collected 29 wins, including 15 in dual match play, in the primary doubles position for the Red Raiders. Thomson and Wynn racked up six wins against ranked opponents, and notched a 3-1 mark in conference play.
Â
The two also earned runner-up status at the 2018 ITA National Fall Championships and a berth in the 2019 NCAA Doubles Championships, eventually leading to an All-Big 12 First Team selection for their work on the doubles side.
Â
Thomson and Wynn are one of three conference doubles teams to earn All-America status, joining Sven Lah/Jimmy Bendeck (Baylor) and Christian Sigsgaard/Harrison Scott (Texas). The Tech duo are the only All-Americans in the Big 12 who will both return for the 2019-20 season.
