Texas Tech Sweeps Mountain Region Men’s Awards Again

Red Raiders take home all four USTFCCCA “Of the Year” awards for the second time in 2019.
NEW ORLEANS – Three weeks after completing their second-straight indoor/outdoor sweep of the Big 12 Championships, the Red Raiders brought home even more hardware in the form of another sweep. Texas Tech swept all four U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mountain Region "Of the Year" awards for the second time this year. The foursome swept the same awards at the conclusion of the indoor season as well.

After putting together the most dominant Big 12 Indoor Championships win in conference history, Kittley's Red Raiders nearly broke the outdoor conference meet record while resting several key racers in preparation for nationals. His Tech squad has set six school records alone this season: 100m, 200m, 4x100 relay, pole vault, javelin, and discus. It is Kittley's sixth time winning Head Coach of the Year in the Mountain Region since the award's inception in 2007. He has won the men's and women's awards each three times.
Kittley's team entered the pre-season ranked number one in the country – a ranking the Red Raiders had never held during the outdoor season. Now eight weeks in, Tech will head to next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships as the top squad in the nation.
Robinson's sprints and hurdles group has dominated the national scene in 2019, picking up right where it left off in 2018 after showing glimpses of the sort of talent it has. Oduduru – undoubtedly the world's hottest sprinter this season – has led the charge here with such season highlights as two sub-20 200m races and two sub-10 100m races. Robinson is also responsible for Big 12 Championships in the 100m, 200m, 400H, and 4x100 relay. He qualified three for nationals, plus the 4x100 relay.
Oduduru has taken the collegiate track world by storm since bursting on the scene last year and winning the 200m outdoor national title out of lane eight. This year, he has gone sub-20 in the 200m twice and sub-10 in the 100m twice – doing both in the span of a single hour at Baylor. He was the 10th man in world history to do so in the same day. He is the only man in the world to have gone sub-20 twice this season. Oduduru is the only to go sub-20 or sub-10 in school history and will run both the 100m and 200m at the national meet, in addition to the 4x100 relay.
Lewis has returned for his second year at Tech and continues to remain one of the top jumpers in collegiate track and field. He ranks second in the nation in the long jump and fourth in the triple. He'll return to nationals as a defending medalist in both events. Lewis won the West Region triple jump. He ranks fifth in school history in both the long and triple.
The Red Raiders will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week in Austin from June 5-8. More info on the Championships can be found here.
