Texas Tech hosted its Red & Black Gala Monday night in Allen Theater
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics celebrated its best and brightest from the 2018-19 academic year Monday evening during the Red & Black Gala hosted on campus in Allen Theater.
Â
The gala, formally known as the TECHspys, served as the end-of-year reception for Tech student-athletes, who were recognized for their accomplishments in competition as well as in the classroom. Every sport was represented among the night's winners.
Â
After finishing as the national runner-up a month ago, Red Raider Basketball swept the men's awards as Jarrett Culver claimed the Fearless Champion Award, while Chris Beard was tabbed Coach of the Year. The Red Raiders were also named the Team of the Year following their historic campaign that included a Big 12 regular season title.
Â
On the women's side, NCAA champion Zarriea Willis from the women's track and field team collected the Fearless Champion Award. Red Raider Softball, meanwhile, was recognized as the Team of the Year, while its head coach, Adrian Gregory, garnered Coach of the Year accolades after pushing Tech into the top 20 of the national rankings this year.
Â
