Noah Sprinkel spent last season as volunteer assistant at Wake Forest
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis program has added Noah Sprinkel as an assistant coach announced Thursday by head coach Brett Masi.
Â
Sprinkel operated as a volunteer assistant coach to the national runner-up Wake Forest men's tennis squad during the 2018-19 campaign, coaching a team that went 34-4 overall and 12-0 in conference play en route to its second-consecutive ACC title. The program also had three All-Americans, as well as three all-conference performers. The Demon Deacons also finished in second place at the 2019 ITA Indoor National Championships.
Â
"I am extremely excited to join the Red Raider family," Sprinkel said. "I want to thank Coach Masi and Kirby Hocutt for giving me this opportunity. Tech has historically been one of the top athletic departments in the country and I'm very fortunate to be able to work with such dedicated people and student-athletes."
Â
Sprinkel served as an assistant coach at Amherst College in the 2017-18 season under head coach Todd Doebler. Led by Doebler and Sprinkel, the Mammoths went 12-7 and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Regional Round. Amherst also had an All-American in singles play in 2018.
Â
From 2015-2017, Sprinkel held a spot as an assistant coach at the University of Mary Washington. In the 2015-16 season, the Eagles held a 19-10 record, including a 7-0 mark in conference play. UMW won its 17th-consecutive conference title and featured a CAC Conference player of the year on the singles side.
Â
Sprinkel was a standout player for Coe College, racking up three-consecutive Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference MVP honors and ITA singles All-America honors in 2015. He notched 12 IIAC Player of the Week honors and participated in the NCAA National Singles Championships three times in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Sprinkel also earned an ITA Central Regional Senior Player of the Year nod in 2015.
Â
His 79 career singles wins currently sits at 10th all-time in the Coe College men's tennis record book, while his 91 career doubles wins are fourth in program history. Sprinkel graduated with his bachelor's degree in sport management from Coe College in 2014.
Â
Prior to his college career, Sprinkel grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, attending Minneapolis South High School.
Â
"Noah is going to be a tremendous asset for this program," head coach Brett Masi said. "He is a hard worker and with his passion for the game and overall leadership abilities, I'm confident he will be a strong leader for our players. Being an All American during his playing days and helping coach Wake Forest to the finals of the NCAA Tournament last year shows his desire to win. There's no doubt his experience as both a player and coach will elevate our program and help us to become elite."
Â
The Red Raiders return to action this fall, where they retain four of their six starters on the singles side, including doubles All Americans Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn.
