Dumez, Nielsen Both Competing at European Team Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech incoming freshman Gala Dumez and sophomore Cecilie Nielsen closed the opening round of match play at the European Team Championships on Thursday with Dumez' native France topping Slovakia, 3.5-1.5, and Nielsen's Denmark falling to Germany, 4.5-2.5.

France, playing in the Flight B, advances to play Finland in a semifinal match Friday. Dumez, who fired a 1-over-par 73 in Wednesday's stroke play round, finished 1-up over Slovakia's Katarina Drocarova on Friday as part of three singles victories for France.

Denmark, meanwhile, did not have Nielsen in its lineup as it fell in the Flight A quarterfinals and will face England on Friday. Denmark is one of eight countries in the top bracket that is competing for the European Team Championship crown.

Nielsen signed for a 3-over card during Wednesday's stoke play round that helped determine seeds and flights for the match play portion of the tournament, which is being held at the Is Molas Golf Club in Italy. Dumez closed the round in a tie for 26th place, while Nielsen finished 51st overall.
