Murray Reveals Cross Country Schedule

Red Raiders set for fall cross season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech cross country head coach Jon Murray released his squad's fall schedule Wednesday. The Red Raiders will run in four regular season meets before heading to the Baylor-hosted Big 12 Championships in November.
Â
"It's a good regional schedule," Murray said. "We have a solid group of competitions, especially heading to Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. Our goal with these is to run well against good programs and get ready for that conference meet."
Â
Tech will open the fall slate at Abilene Christian on Aug. 31, where they will compete at the ACU Invite. Three weeks will pass before the Red Raiders hit the course again, doing so at home at the annual TTU Open on Sept. 21.
Â
"The team always does well at the home meet," Murray said. "They get to sleep in their own beds and have a lot of family and friends come out. It's a fun event, the team has a good time and they always run well."
Â
Murray's group will then head to Oklahoma State, whose men's and women's teams finished top-20 in the nation last season, for the Cowboy Jamboree on Oct. 5. The Cowboys and Cowgirls also just finished building a brand new course, prompting Murray to switch out the Chile Pepper Festival at Arkansas for the meet at OSU.
Â
"This is a course that is set to host the national championships in the near future," he said. "I've been told it's challenging, so it will fit well into our training for what we're trying to do at that point in the season. It'll be a great test of our fitness."
Â
The last regular season competition of the fall will take place Oct. 19 when the Red Raiders head to College Station for the annual Arturo Barrios Invitational.
Â
The Big 12 Championships, to be held in Waco, will be Nov. 2. Postseason action will begin in Salt Lake City on Nov. 15 with the NCAA Mountain Region Championships. The NCAA Championships will take place Nov. 29 in Terre Haute, Ind. Â
