Red Raiders to kick off season at Abilene Christian.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech cross country is prepped to open the 2019 campaign at Abilene Christian Saturday. The Red Raiders make the annual trip to ACU for their season opener.Â
Â
Head coach Jon Murray is excited to finally get his runners on the course and get the season underway. On the women's side, upperclassmen Nokuthula Dlamini and Seselia Dala will provide leadership to a young women's core.Â
Â
"The top three or four on the women's side are going to be exciting," Murray said. Sese had a breakout spring and Nikki has had a stream of PRs. We've also added Claudrice McKoy. After that, there's a challenge for those next spots which will be exciting to watch."
Â
The men's side will be led by returner Cornelius Kiprotich, who provides upperclassmen experience on a young men's squad.Â
Â
"Our leaders will be better than they were last year," Murray said. "Cornelius will be better, and Takkieddine Hedeille will provide some international experience. After them, there's a great opportunity for some of the younger guys to decide who wants to step up and help them lead."
Â
At ACU, the men's group will run a 6k, which begins at 8:30 a.m. It will be followed by the women's 4k at 9 a.m.Â
