Captains Named for Arizona Game

Texas Tech’s four captains chosen from a group of 16 captains that were elected for the 2019 season
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells announced Thursday the captains for the first road game of the season as the Red Raiders get set for a 9:30 p.m. kickoff at Arizona on Saturday from Arizona Stadium.
Of the 16 captains elected prior to the start of the season, Terence Steele, Thomas Leggett, Ta'Zhawn Henry, Xavier Benson will be representing the Red Raiders during the coin toss against the Wildcats. This marks the first appointment as captain for all four student-athletes in 2019.
Steele leads a veteran offensive line with 37 career starts despite missing the first two games of the season. The Cibolo, Texas, product was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection as a junior in 2018.
Leggett has been in the mix at the safety position and ranks eighth on the team with five tackles through the first two weeks. A native of Navarre, Fla., by way of Allan Hancock Community College, he came away with his first career sack last weekend along with three tackles against UTEP.
Henry has earned the start at running back for the first two games and has compiled 83 yards on 19 carries (4.4 avg.) with a score. The Houston native also leads the running backs in receiving with 10 catches (third on the team) for 54 yards.
Benson is tied for fourth on the team in tackles through two weeks with six. A sophomore linebacker out of Texarkana, Texas, he has started each of the first two games this season and turned in four stops against UTEP.
