Texas Tech Volleyball to Host Annual Red Raider Classic

Texas Tech welcomes Houston, Incarnate Word and UTEP for three matches at United Supermarkets Arena.
LUBBOCK, Texas – After a dominant performance on Monday, the Texas Tech volleyball team continues its homestand with three matches in its annual Red Raider Classic on Sept. 20-21 at United Supermarkets Arena.

The Red Raiders will open up the tournament with a 6 p.m. match against Houston on Friday before taking on Incarnate Word (1 p.m.) and UTEP (7 p.m.) on Saturday. Live stats and a live stream will be available for all three matches. Additionally, Tech's matchup against Houston is set to stream on Fox Sports Plus ($).

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Head coach Tony Graystone is seven wins away from the 500th victory of his coaching career.
- After their performances at the UNLV Invitational, Allison White and Emily Hill picked up All-Tournament Team honors. White finished the weekend with 25 kills and 12 total blocks while Hill 52 kills and 41 digs.
- Nationally, the Red Raiders rank seventh among all Division I teams with 574 kills, 526 assists, as well as 10th overall with 10.2 total blocks. Tech stands at No. 27 with 629 digs and 41st with 13.67 kills per set.
- Collecting two double-doubles on opening weekend, Emily Hill started her senior year with a bang and earned the Big 12 Conference's first Offensive Player of the Week award of 2019. The weekly nod was the first of her career and the first weekly offensive award since Lauren Douglass was dubbed the league's Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, 2014.
- Newcomer Caitlin Dugan ranks 19th in the league, as well as fourth among all freshmen in the Big 12, with 75 kills.
- Thanks to Monday's victory over Abilene Christian, the Red Raiders have won their last six home openers. Tech is now 8-2 in home openers over the last 10 years.
- Continuing a fantastic start to her senior year, Emily hill leads the nation with 210 kills, 565 attacks and 233.5 points. She leads the Big 12 Conference by 74 kills.
- Two Red Raiders have birthday's in the month of September. Emily Hill turned 22 years old on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and sophomore Alex Kirby will turn 20 on Sunday, Sept. 22.
- Senior Emily Hill has played over 400 sets over the course of her career. The Denton, Texas native played 126 sets as a freshman at Mississippi State and has participated in 277 sets since she arrived at Tech in 2017. Her next start will be the 100th start of her career.
- Helping Texas Tech to a victory over UNLV, Allison White posted a career-high 15 kills, .667 hitting percentage and 18 points against the Rebels.
- You're not just seeing things. Freshmen Lauren Dodson and Lindsey Dodson are one of the few pairs of sisters to grace the Texas Tech volleyball program. The Dodsons are the first set of twins that head coach Tony Graystone has ever coached in his now 21 years of coaching.
- Three Red Raiders – Emily Hill, Allison White and Emerson Solano – have started every match for Tech this season.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.Â
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student-athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
- A major part of the Texas Tech defense, junior Emerson Solano returns to the floor after starting all 30 matches as Texas Tech's libero in 2018. Her 442 digs on the year ranked No. 10 in the school record book for digs per season and she ranked second in the Big 12 with 4.06 digs per set as a sophomore. Racking up 157 digs this year, Solano has started every match at libero during the 2019 season and is averaging 4.03 digs per set.
- A pair of Texas Tech volleyball matches have been selected to air on ESPNU while three other affairs are scheduled to broadcast on FOX Sports Networks. Tech's ESPN broadcasts begin with the Red Raiders' Sept. 25 match against West Virginia and will close with Tech's in-state showdown against Texas on Oct. 30. Additionally, the Red Raiders will appear on Fox Sports Networks against Houston (Sept. 20), Kansas (Oct. 16) and finally Iowa State (Nov. 20).

First serve against Houston is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Live stats, as well as a live stream on Fox Sports Plus, will be available for the match. Tech's Saturday schedule begins at 1 p.m. against UIW before one last match against UTEP at 7 p.m. Live stats and a live stream will be available for both matches.Â
