Texas Tech opens multi-format event with 9 a.m. CT shotgun start Sunday morning
MADISCON, Wisc. - The Texas Tech women's golf team will play in their second tournament of the fall semester on Sunday at the East West Match Play Challenge held at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Â
The three-day tournament will begin with 36 holes of continuous stroke play on Sunday, which will determine the seeding for Monday and Tuesday's match play brackets. The top four teams in stroke play competition will advance to the championship bracket, and eight non-team individuals will compete in stroke play and a match play event of their own.
Â
Tech is one of six power five programs participating in the East West Match Play Challenge, joining Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State and host Wisconsin. UC Davis and Grand Canyon will also compete for the title.
Â
Head coach JoJo Robertson will roll out the same team lineup from their first tournament at the Trinity Forest Invitational, where the Red Raiders finished in second place.
Â
Sofia Garcia will make her first appearance since tying her own program-record round of 64 in Dallas. Amy Taylor will also start in her second tournament of the year, having tied for 11th last time out. Freshman Gala Dumez will aim to continue her momentum after concluding the Trinity Forest Invitational with rounds of 74 and 73 en route to a top-20 finish in her first appearance for the Red Raiders.
Â
Anna Dong and Cecilie Nielsen are set to round out the team lineup for Tech. Junior Louisa Brunt, who will be carrying the Folds of Honor bag for the Red Raiders, will be competing as an individual.
Â
Play will begin on Sunday with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start. Tech will be paired with Kansas State and UC Davis for stroke play. Live scoring will be provided on Golfstat.com.
