Amy Taylor, Cecilie Nielsen and Sofia Garcia pick up match wins on Tuesday
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team defeated UC Davis 3-2 in Tuesday's match play event to finish in third place at the East/West Match Play tournament in Madison, Wisconsin.
Due to the original suspension of play on Sunday because of rain, match play was shortened by one match, pitting (4) Tech and (3) UC Davis in a skirmish for third place.
Tuesday's match began at 8:30 a.m. CT, as Amy Taylor took the course and secured an early lead in her match, winning the first four holes and concluding play with a 6&5 victory over Yoonhee Kim of UC Davis.
Cecilie Nielsen recorded the second win for the Red Raiders with a 2-up win in a back-and-forth battle that was decided on the 18th hole. Sofia Garcia, who finished the stroke play portion of the tournament in solo second place, defeated her opponent 3&2 to lock in the win for Tech.
Sophomore Anna Dong and freshman Gala Dumez both fell in their matches on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders will return to action on Oct. 7-8 at the annual Illini Invitational in Medinah, Illinois.
