Captains Named for Oklahoma Game

Texas Tech’s four captains chosen from a group of 16 captains that were elected for the 2019 season
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells announced Thursday the captains for the Big 12 opener as the Red Raiders travel to Norman, Okla., to take on No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday at 11 a.m., from Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Of the 16 captains elected prior to the start of the season, Jack Anderson, Travis Bruffy, Riko Jeffers and SaRodorick Thompson will represent the Red Raiders during the coin toss against the Sooners. Bruffy is the first to receive a second nod as captain while the other three are making their first appearance.
A junior offensive lineman from Frisco, Texas, Anderson has been a force along the offensive line since stepping on campus with 27 career starts on the interior. After earning Freshman All-America honors in 2017, he piled up the accolades last season, including All-Big 12 second team by the conference coaches and associated press and All-Big 12 first team by Pro Football Focus.
A senior offensive lineman out of Missouri City, Texas, Bruffy has made 25 starts the last three years, holding down the left tackle spot in 14 of the last 15 games dating back to the beginning of the 2018 season. An honorable mention All-Big 12 pick in 2018, he was recognized Wednesday as a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
A junior linebacker from Garland, Texas, Jeffers is coming off a breakout season in 2018 where he finished third on the team with 71 tackles, trailing only fellow linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Dakota Allen. He has continued his high-level play this season with 16 stops, which ranks third on the team, and 1.5 tackles-for-loss for a defensive unit that ranks 16th nationally and second in the Big 12 for scoring defense.
A redshirt freshman running back product of Irving, Texas, Thompson is part of a productive and diverse three-member committee in the backfield. After scoring three times in four games during his redshirt year, Thompson has already matched that total in the first three games of 2019 to lead the Red Raiders in rushing touchdowns.
