
Tech Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to Austin Peay

Senior Emily Hill earned All-Tournament honors at the NU Under Armour Challenge.
EVANSTON, Ill – The Texas Tech volleyball team tried to rally late in the match, but the Red Raiders' efforts fell short as the squad dropped a 3-1 decision to Austin Peay on the final day of the NU Under Armour Classic at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Senior Emily Hill garnered All-Tournament recognition after she tallied 16 kills and 12 digs in this afternoon's contest against the Governors. Freshman Kylie Trefflich followed Hill with seven kills in her first appearance as a Red Raider. Karrington Jones and Caitlin Dugan tallied three solo blocks apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE – Austin Peay 25, Texas Tech 23
Allison White and Brooke Kanas put up Tech's first point of the match thanks to a solid block assist. The Red Raiders maintained a two-point lead throughout the first half of the match until an untimely setting error tied up the match 10-all. Dugan responded with a monstrous kill on the right side and a pair of Austin Peay errors gave Tech a three-point lead. The Governors tied up the set again at 13-13 but Hill limited the separation with another kill. Austin Peay leveled the set at 15-15 and a 5-1 run put Tech in a four-point deficit. After Lauren Dodson entered to set, the Red Raiders put together a three-point run and forced a timeout. The Red Raiders tied up the set at 23-23, but they could not hold on and dropped the first set, 25-23.

SET TWO – Austin Peay 25, Texas Tech 16
White kicked off the second set with a kill, but the momentum swung towards the Governors. Dodson served up an ace to cut into Austin Peay's lead and a huge block from Dugan and White made it a two-point set at 10-8. After a kill from Atwood halted eight unanswered points for Austin Peay, Emerson Solano followed up with an ace and Trefflich pounded the first kill of her career on the left side of the court. The Red Raiders took advantage of two Governor errors, but they couldn't make up ground and Austin Peay made it a 2-0 match with a 25-16 victory in the second.

SET THREE – Texas Tech 25, Austin Peay 22
Tech put together two blocks in the first five points, but an 8-1 run for the Governors put the Red Raiders in a 13-6 hole early on. However, a pair of kills from Trefflich sparked a 5-1 swing for the Red Raiders and Tech came within two points at 17-15. The Governors responded with four points, but a nine-point comeback – produced by kills from Trefflich, Hill, Boyer and Dodson, as well as blocks from Boyer and Trefflich – propelled the Red Raiders to a 25-22 set victory to make it a 2-1 match.

SET FOUR – Austin Peay 25, Texas Tech 22
Tech found themselves at an early three-point deficit to start what would be the final set of the match. After a kill from Hill put the Red Raiders at 10 points in the set, Austin Peay went off with six consecutive points to make it an 18-10 set. Back-to-back kills from Jones and Hill halted the Governors' advance and a 7-1 run for Tech – highlighted by solo blocks from Jones, Dugan and Cadi Boyer – brought the set within one point at 20-19. Boyer and Trefflich pounded back-to-back kills to give the Red Raiders a one-point edge, but one final push from Austin Peay ended the final set, 25-22. With the loss, Tech falls to an even 3-3 on the season.
